MELAcontrol Seal Check

Order no. ME01079

With MELAcontrol Seal Check, the required control of sealing devices is carried out quickly and cost-effectively. The indicator paper precisely proves the quality and reproducibility of the sealing seams. With the correct fusion of the inner film layer and its correct pressure on the paper, a full-surface seal seam is produced. Insufficient sealing temperatures, worn sealing bars or insufficient contact pressure thus become visible.

Seal Check: Everything you need to know about the routine check

What is a seal check?

A seal check is an important routine test for sealing devices used in medical and dental practices. This check ensures that the seal seam, which packages medical instruments and materials under sterile conditions, is functioning properly and is free from defects. A perfect seal is essential to ensure the sterility of the instruments until they are used.

Importance of the seal check

Regular seal checks are essential to ensure safety and hygiene in medical facilities. Faulty seals can lead to contamination of instruments, which increases the risk of infections and complications for patients. The seal check helps to minimize these risks by ensuring that the sealing devices work reliably and efficiently.

Performing the seal check

The seal check includes a visual and mechanical inspection of the sealing seam. A special indicator paper is used, which is placed between the films of the sealed packaging. The sealing device closes the packaging and the indicator paper shows whether the seal seam is complete and even. This checks whether the necessary temperature and pressure have been applied to ensure a secure seal.

The seal check involves a series of steps that must be followed carefully to ensure that the seal is working properly. Here is a detailed guide on how to perform the seal check:

  1. preparing the sealing device:
o Make sure the sealer has been properly cleaned and maintained.
o Check the settings of the device, including temperature and pressure, to ensure they meet the manufacturer's specifications.

  2. prepare the test materials:
o Use the specific indicator paper or test material intended for the Seal Check.
o If necessary, cut the indicator paper according to the size of the sterilization packaging.

  3. carrying out the sealing process:
o Place the indicator paper between the foils of the sterilization packaging.
o Carry out the normal sealing process in which the packaging is closed in the sealing device.

  4. visual inspection:
o Remove the sealed packaging from the device and visually inspect the seal seam for irregularities.
o Look for even sealing seams without interruptions or air pockets.

  5. documentation of the results:
o Note the results of the seal check in a log provided for this purpose.
o If defects are found, the sealing device should be checked and serviced again to ensure that future seals are flawless.

Conclusion

The seal check is an indispensable part of quality control in medical and dental practices. Regular testing and documentation of the sealing seams ensures the sterility of medical instruments and minimizes the risk of infection. Supplementary tests such as the peel test and the ink test offer additional security and contribute to comprehensive quality assurance.
